Belfast - Pro Life Rally sends clear message to Sinn Fein and Westminster

Belfast - Pro Life Rally sends clear message to Sinn Fein and Westminster

20,000 people gathered in Customs House Square in Belfast on Saturday to oppose the introduction of abortion in Northern Ireland .

In July , British MPs passed the Northern Ireland (Executive Formation) Act 2019 which requires abortion to be made legal before the end of March 2020 unless the Stormont executive is restored by October 21st . The legislation will introduce abortion up to 28 weeks gestation .

Saturday's rally - 'march for their lives' was organised by a coalition of pro life groups both North and South including Precious Life - Northern Ireland's leading pro life advocacy group , Youth for Life , the life institute among many others . The theme of the March was ‘Not in our Name’ .

Niamh Ui Bhriain of the Life Institute told the crowd that Sinn Fein had "spat in the face of all those who believe in the republican tradition" and "sacrificed freedom and sovereignty for their slavish devotion to identity politics"

right now , where we're standing is one of the safest places in the world to be a preborn child so lets keep it that way by saying no to westminster , you are here today because nothing is made better by the killing of a child , women deserve better then the empty promise abortion offers women , where they offer them nothing except ending their childs life and leaving them with regret and sorrow .

You are here today to stand strong against the trampling down of democracy that happened in westminster when MPs dared to vote to impose abortion on the people of the north of ireland because those MPs voted to impose a culture that sees 1 in 5 babies aborted in britain and 90% of babies diagnosed with down syndrome aborted . those of you who know me know I am probably what you would describe as an unrepentant fenian but it has been heartening in the extreme to see Arlene Foster standing strong against this cruel and extreme abortion law .

Sinn Fein going cap in hand to westminster to ask the british government for a return to direct rule on the issue of abortion and in doing so sinn fein have crossed the rubicon and we must never let them forget it because they have upended two hundred years of republican tradition and they have spat in the face of all those who believe in the republican tradition

Sinn Fein have sacrificed freedom and sovereignty for their slavish devotion to identity politics and to their obsession with abortion and all of those voters who support sinn fein because it wrapped itself in the green flag , they now need a wake up call .

Sinn fein have betrayed not just their founding principles , not just their mission but even their very name because they no longer believe people have the right to decide , they no longer believe in sovereignty and all that they have sacrificed in the name of abortion rights and for most republicans in the North , this is treason.

They have betrayed the republican tradition , betrayed the most helpless of all our people and they have betrayed you the people and already I'm happy to say that sinn fein are paying the price for that in the ballot box both North and South and long may that continue

Other Speakers included Bernadette Smyth, Director of Precious Life who said.."We must be a very loud voice, because the voice of the unborn cannot speak. Those little children cannot even defend themselves; they cannot speak from the womb, so we must speak for those children today as we march for their lives through the city centre here and beyond this"  .

Baroness Nuala O'Loan , Chairwoman of NUI Maynooth and columnist with The Irish Catholic told the crowd "We’re here because in July, in Westminster, members of Parliament who don’t live here, who don’t represent us, decided that our laws should change. In 1967, we said that we did not want the abortion act. In 2016, we said that we did not want the abortion act, and the government have consistently told Parliament that they would not legislate on this, and yet…and yet, we saw what happened in July. I believe, as do millions of others across the world, that human life exists from the moment of conception and that it must be protected at all times. Know this, know that despite all the campaigns and all the protestations, there is no human right to abortion. No human right allows killing"

excellent speech by Niamh and great reaction . she is right about Sinn Fein , they are obsessed with abortion and identity politics , just like all the other political parties , they are now all the same , you cant tell the difference . It was nice to see Renua and Irish Freedom party in Belfast . we need new parties like these to save ireland from the communist left

Firstly, Thank You to the Author for bringing such an important issue to light and Kudos on such excellent coverage.
My sincere Thanks and admiration goes to the folk in the north for taking direct action (be it unpopular) to try an stop the proposed "Back Door route" attempt at the legalization of abortion in Northern Ireland.
To give license to anybody to abort a child in the womb at any point during the pregnancy is in my view, not only immoral but also wholesale murder of the unborn. That said, Of course I realize that my view, is just that, the view of one person. However, One must see the debate on abortion (regardless of personal opinion)for what it is in the society in which we live in 2019. It started as a debate initially on the issues of Rape and incest and appealed to the emotional side of such truly terrible crimes against women, as of course it should!. Sadly since those early days of said debate a lot of things have changed (many consider for the worse)and the debate as presented by the Pro-Abortion camp (so to speak) has instead begun to focus on the Rights of the Woman (not a bad thing in itself) while totally ignoring the rights of the unborn child!. Thus an abortion debate around rape and incest after success in some countries including the Republic, has now emboldened some to insist that ALL rights of abortion should be the domain ONLY of the woman. This has of course brought about more calls for expanding the abortion timescale, but totally at the expense of again, the unborn child!.
I dare not even speak of the Father, future Grand Parents or extended family also. Now the proposal that the people of the north are faced with not only grants right of abortion at the expense of the child and others mentioned, but also sets out a timescale of 28 weeks!, which as history already proves WILL be at some time challenged.

fully agree with Niamh , I've had republicans in my own family , I have zero time for sinn fein , they are EU loyalists , if socialist republican means you have to be pro abortion , support the EU plantations of Ireland and cultural marxism , forget it , you can keep your politics .
#
when england & wales legalised abortion in 1968 there were 23,641 abortions , Now its 200,000 a year. when you legalise it , it becomes Normal and more people do it , some use it as a form of contraception and have 2 and 3 abortions . life from conception with no exception . well done belfast . Dont allow the north to be next .

hi cathy , two wrongs dont make a right . firstly , Im not going to excuse the USA's illegal wars , I mean when Obama was president he dropped 25000 bombs a year in his illegal WARS . completely wrong and ujustified . it was revenge rather than defence. Having said that, it was Islamic Extremism that started the whole thing in the first place . It would be a very foolish person that turns a blind eye to any form of extremism. i have spoken with muslims in Ireland who said they

cathy

Perhaps it's time for Ireland to stop helping USA to bomb the home countries of the immigrant people. There countries are no longer safe for them. Ireland supports their attack by allowing US airplanes to refuel at shannon for the bombing missions
