Young Girl almost dies after choking on cooked Face mask inside Chicken nugget

A 6 year old girl almost died after choking on a face mask cooked inside McDonald's chicken nuggets . The girl's mother Laura Arber said she found pieces of the face mask inside a number of nuggets she bought from the McDonald's restaurant in Aldershot, Hampshire on Tuesday. She told Hampshire Live ... "My little daughter just started choking. I put my fingers down her throat to loop it out there was just blue with the sick. I thought, What on earth is this? I didn't even think it could be the chicken nugget, but I looked over at the box and all I could see was this blue coming out of

Broadcasting Complaints - Know your rights

Did you know that all broadcast news in Ireland must be presented and reported in an objective and impartial manner and without expression of the broadcasters own views.

This applies to all commercial, community and public radio and television broadcasters, be they on a local, temporary, institutional, regional or national basis .

Under Section 48 of the Broadcasting Act , the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) has the power to investigate complaints on a range of areas .

If you see or hear any broadcast which you believe infringes any of the following requirements you can make a formal complaint .

1) Fairness, objectivity & impartiality in news and current affairs

Current affairs broadcasts, including matters of public controversy or debate, must be treated in a manner which is fair to all interests concerned and the broadcast must be presented in an objective and impartial manner, without any expression of the broadcasters’ own views. You are invited to review the BAI Code of Fairness, Objectivity and Impartiality in News and Current Affairs  when making a complaint under this heading.

If the broadcast is not a news and current affairs programme, it is not obliged to comply with this code. Instead, the BAI Code of Programme Standards  may apply .

2) Harm & undue offence, including law and order

Every broadcaster must ensure that it does not broadcast anything which may reasonably be regarded as likely to cause harm or undue offence or unreasonably encroach on the privacy of an individual or raise issues of a law and order nature. You are invited to review the BAI Code of Programme Standards when making a complaint about harm and undue offence, including law and order and privacy.

3) Privacy

Every broadcaster must ensure that it does not broadcast anything which may unreasonably encroach on the privacy of an individual. The Act does not give an absolute right to privacy and there may be certain circumstances, such as the public interest, where the encroachment on the privacy of an individual may be reasonable. If you are considering making a complaint about privacy, you should be aware that only individuals who believe that their privacy has been unreasonably encroached upon may make a complaint. A complaint may not be made on behalf of another individual unless that individual has authorised this complaint or where you are, for example, the parent or guardian of that person.

4) Commercial communications

Commercial communications include, advertisements, sponsorship announcements, competitions, teleshopping and product placement.  If you want to make a complaint about commercial content, you are invited to review either the BAI General Commercial Communications Code  or and the BAI Children’s Commercial Communications Code  when making a complaint under this heading. The Children’s Code applies to commercial communications broadcast during children’s programme or where the commercial message is directed at children. All other commercial messages fall under the General Code.

Where to make a complaint

In most cases, the BAI expects that the broadcaster is the first stop for your complaint .

A full list of all tv and radio stations and their complaint contact details is available here - https://www.bai.ie/en/broadcasters/

If you are not satisfied with the broadcaster’s response you refer your complaint to the BAI .

However , In certain circumstances, you can complain directly to the BAI ahead of the broadcaster where you or an organisation that you represent has been mentioned in the programme or commercial communication that you wish to complain about or where you provide an acceptable reason or reasons why the complaint should not be referred to the relevant broadcaster in the first place or the complaint deals with your privacy or the privacy of a person for whom you have responsibility (such as a child) .

Time limit

If the complaint relates to one broadcast, you must send it to the broadcaster no later than thirty days after the date of the broadcast , If it relates to two or more unrelated broadcasts, you must send it no later than thirty days after the date of the earlier or earliest broadcast .If you make the complaint to the broadcaster outside of these timeframes, they are not obliged to consider your complaint. If you make a complaint directly to the BAI outside of these timeframes, they cannot consider it.

Making the Complaint to the BAI

When directing complaints to the BAI, you should complete this form - http://www.bai.ie/en/download/130305/
and Email it to : complaints@bai.ie or by Post to : Complaints Officer , Broadcasting Authority of Ireland , 2 – 5 Warrington Place, Dublin 2 .

Excellent article Vinny TJ, exceptional research and presentation!. Thank You.

While you are absolutely correct and indeed there has always been a Broadcasting Complaints ombudsman / body in one guise or another in Ireland. People are NOT aware of their rights of reply, or as it was once called right to be heard. For this reason the Author's very well researched article here, is both MOST important and indeed vital information at a time in Ireland (sadly) when it appears we the Irish people are about to be launched in to a UK style Nanny State situation without prior proper consultation.

Despite the avenues available to the Irish general Public regarding making complaints about unfair or biased information / Newscasts presented on our airways or televised. There are broadcasting companies both on the local level and as recently witnessed on a more National level that will do all possible to divert (let us say) opposing opinion.

A very good and recent example was brought to our attention by another of my favourite article writers here on The Tricolour, the article by Mike Irish, titled : "Galway - Asylum Seekers rushed in to Seaside Village of Kinvara , no consultation with locals," dated November 5th 2019. Mentioned corruption within some local media outlets! with the following:

" One local Resident David O'Reilly said that all of a sudden the Minister appeared , with local politicians , Media and NGO representatives .. "The minister was there , the local politicians , the NGOs and the local media were all pushing this over the line , there was a shyness of people to even mention their opposition even though it was there" .

"Mr O'Reilly said that HE WAS TOLD BY LOCAL MEDIA "we're not allowed to interview you" and added . " I GOT A TEXT FROM THE LOCAL RADIO STATION TELLING ME THAT THEY WILL NEVER INTERVIEW ME "

What this article and the above mentioned article by Mike Irish proves is the absolute importance of complaining where genuine wrongdoing shows it's ugly biased head. With this in mind I suggest that we should all take note of the links to documents and websites kindly provided by Vinny TJ in this article.

Again my sincere Thanks to Vinny TJ.

Thankfully this news is raising MANY eyebrows internationally. Many in the UK & the United States who are of Irish origin are unhappy that the Irish are last in many decisions made by the EU owned Irish government. Perhaps the Irish Diaspora might just be able to shame the GIVE EVERYTHING TO THE EU political class here in Ireland. We live in hope!
