Yellow Flag Programme - An attack on Irish Culture

The Yellow Flag programme for schools is an EU cultural initiative for schools funded by the EU Commissions - Asylum , Migration and Integration fund encouraging schools to abandon the promotion of the dominant culture in Ireland in favour of an intercultural identity on the basis that it is a form of racism to want to promote your own culture .

Racism is a system of disadvantage and advantage based on the cultural/ethnic group to which you belong. The dominant cultural group have access to benefits that other cultural groups may not enjoy

White settled people with a history of living in Ireland are classified as the dominant cultural group. The fact that this is the dominant group, means that this group holds greater power in setting cultural norms in the country.

Students can experience indirect racism by taking part in classes that give expression to only one cultural view point

Changing the Dominant Culture within our schools is a key focus of the programme . There are 8 steps involved in completing the programme . Such steps include the establishment of a Diversity Committee and creation of a Diversity Action Plan .

Step number 7 talks about the need to change the dominant culture within our classrooms referred to as the 'hidden curriculum'  which it says "makes it easier for those groups to conform and thrive " . It states that teachers need to 'reflect on the hidden curriculum' , examine their own 'hidden biases' and work with pupils to change the classroom culture ,  rules and routines integrating different texts that reflect more intercultural learning.

Step 8 , the final step involves teachers , pupils and school management establishing new policies for the school that will promote the new intercultural ethos and diversity for the school .

On completion of the 8 steps , a Yellow Flag assessment team visits the school , meets with the Diversity Committee  , pupils , parents and teachers involved in the programme . On successful completion , the school is awarded the Yellow Flag usually presented by President Michael D or a government minister which it must renew every 3 years .

The programme has the support of many high profile activists involved in repealing the 8th amendment such as Dr Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin and Katherine Zappone .

There is a big push now by the EU Commission to create an 'EU' Identity and Culture , the yellow flag programme is part of the push . Children are the easiest to influence and are being weaponized by the EU to advance this idea into the future . Surprised though that catholic schools are embracing this , the people behind this are the very same people who wouldn't think twice about shutting down every catholic school in the country .
