I am writing this in relation to the #IREXIT event which is due to take place at the RDS on Saturday 3rd February .
The event has been organised by a political party in the European Parliament called the Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy (EFDD party) .
The EFDD Party consists of 45 MEPS .
Nigel Farage is the Chair of the EFDD party and is coming to Ireland in this capacity to speak at the #IREXIT event in Dublin . Mr Farage is just one of a number of guest speakers including James Charity , John Waters and Cormac Lucey .
Over the past number of years many Political Parties in the European Parliament have come to Ireland , organised events , with their chair and members extended courtesy and freedom of speech .
Last Year , Both the European People's Party (EPP) and the Alliance of liberals and Democrats (ALDE) came to Ireland to discuss Brexit and closer European integration .
In May , The European People's Party of which Fine Gael is aligned gathered in Co Wicklow for two days of discussions . The event was hosted by Sean Kelly MEP with several speakers including its chairman Manfred Weber , Michel Barnier and Tony Blair
In June , The Alliance of Liberals and Democrats of which Fianna Fail is aligned arrived in Dublin . Thirty representatives from cities and regions across the EU including city mayors and politicians arrived in Dublin for the conference . One of the main aims of the event was to ensure that ... "Fianna Fail as national leaders take a step back from Brexit to give the lead to the European Commission’s negotiator Michel Barnier" which was agreed upon via .."a top level discussion between Michael Martin, leader of Fianna Fáil, and our President Bart Somers"
As with the EPP event a month earlier , there was no issue with any of those political parties in the European Parliament coming to Ireland , nor with any of their speakers or chairpersons .
Indeed , in September , Guy Verhofstadt , President of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats in the European Parliament and former Belgium Prime Minister was given a special seat of honour in Dail Eireann to address our TDs .
All of these People have come to Ireland on many occasions without issue .
In the spirit of true equality , a similar courtesy should also be extended to the EFDD party and its elected chair Nigel Farage .
The EFDD party doesn't visit Ireland that often , This will be its first time since 2009 when it organised a leaflet drop during the Second Lisbon Treaty referendum .
I hope people will make them feel welcome .
