Gary Brennan: 'Tá deiseanna maithe againn faoi láthair'

By Cian O'Connell

Tar is taispeantas den scoth i Stid an Phiarsaigh mIil seo caite sheas Gary Brennan i lr na pirce. Bh muintir peile an Chlir scapaithe timpeall air, Ros Comin buaillte agus turas go Ceann Aras le teacht.

C go raibh Ciarra ro ghlic i bPirc an Chrcaigh n raibh aon dabht go raibh dul chun cinn mr danta ag foireann Colm Collins. Ait bainte amach i Roinn 2 sa tSraith Allianz agus babhta ceathr ceannais sa Chraobh sroichte acu.

O shin ar aghaidh rug Brennan greim ar an gcamn agus bh bliain dochlite aige i ngeansa dubh agus buBaile Aodha. Le Chraobh an Chlir agus Mumhan ina seilbh acu anois, t a fhios ag Brennan go bhfuil ruda go maith faoi lthair. Caithfidh m bheith ssta go leor, ach ar ns gach imreoir spirt n bhonn muid ssta go dt an deireadh riamh, deireann Brennan.

Feach bh blianta againn nuair nach rabhamar i gCluich Ceannais agus nuair nach rabhamar i Roinn 2 sa pheil, caithfidh me taitneamh a bhaint as sin fad is at muid ann. N bheidh muid ann go deo, sin mar a tharlaonn, casann an roth sa spirt. T deiseanna maithe againn faoi lthair agus Le Cnamh De bainfidh muid taitneamh as.

Le gln g ar an bhfd anois t athru mr tagtha ar Bhaile Aodha. Uair amhin b Tony Griffin an laoch, t Tony Kelly, Jack Browne, agus Paul Flanagan acu anois. Nuair a thosaigh mise ag imirt bh muid I Sinsear A ach d'athraigh an choras agus bhmoar Sinsear B.

D'imir siad cluiche ceannais i 2003, n raibh m ag imirt ag an am ach thaining siad go dt an cluiche ceannais sin trd an Sinsear B. Nuair a shroich t cluiche ceannais B ag an am fuair t it sa babhta ceathr ceannais den A.

Shroicheamar an babhta leath ceannais i 2013 sa sl canna agus bhuamar an Sinsear B an bhliain canna. Bh muid sa Sinsear A ansin.

Doibrigh an chumann go crua le foirne faoi aois. Bh an-chuid obair dhanamh ach an fhoireann gannaigh sin le Paul, Tony, agus Jack, bh i bhfad nios mo rath orthu sin i gcomparid linne riamh.

"Nuair a bh muid ag imirt d'imir muid ag libheal B don chuid is m ach na leaids sin bhuaigh siad Craobh A an sl ar fad ag teacht anos. Bh taithan mhaith acu i gcomparaid leis an taith a bh againne.

"Nl ach beirt mo bhliain ag imirt ar an bhfoireann seo agus b'fhidir trir at nos sinne. Is foireann og ar an iomln.

Did Brennan ever think that Ballyea would be in contention for AIB All Ireland Club glory? Listen there are dreams, but we would never seriously have expected to be here, Brennan admits.

That said you'd have looked at the talent that was coming through in the club and you'd certainly have felt there was potential there. We had never won a County Championship so I can't honestly say we were thinking of being in Croke Park on St Patrick's Day.

The excitement has been steadily building since St Thomas were toppled at the Semi-Final, but it is important to find the correct balance with a crucial match approaching according to Brennan.

There are times when you just want to zone out to focus on your own stuff, but you have to enjoy the excitement to an extent. You can't get caught up in it or lose focus on the game, but it is a unique experience. You try to enjoy the build up and the interest people have without letting it overcome you.

Nuair a bh Brennan og spreag an Promhoide scoile Eddie Liddy suim sa nGaeilge. Oibronn Brennan mar mhinteoir corpoideachas agus Gaeilge i gColiste Flannn anois.

Is dcha sa bhunscoil sin a fuarthas an ngr don Ghaeilge. Bh minteoir bunscoile iontacha againn ansin, Eddie Liddy go hirithe a bh mar Phromhoide. Nuair a bh m sa bhunscoil i mBaile Aodha chuir s an bhim ar an nGaeilge agus is as sin a spreagadh mo shuim sa Ghaeilge.

Chuaigh me go dt an menscoil ansin agus daithin m an meon dilteach a bh ann i leith na Gaeilge i measc mo chomhdhalta agus theastaigh uaim rud igin a dhanamh chun sin a athr. Ndigh liom go bhfuil sin dhanamh agam go hiomln ach fos fin tim ag iarraidh.

I Ollscoil Luimnigh rinne m Gaeilge le Corpoideachais. N raibh ach trir againn n rang sin a chailigh le Gaeilge. Go hiondil danann daoine Treolaocht no Mata b'fhidir.

Thaitin s liom. Nl aon Ghaeilgeoiri sa bhaile n aon rud mar sin, nor thining aon duine as an nGaeltacht n aon rud mar sin.

Le cursa sport faoi lan seol gach samhraidh n dhearna Brennan crsa aon bhliain nuair a bh s ina dhagoir. B'fhidir ar feadh deireadh seachtaine n l anseo agus ansid.

"N dhearna m crsa riamh sa nGaeltacht marbh siad ar sil le linn an tSamhraidh nuair a bh peil agus iomanaocht le n-imirt. Nraibh m in ann imeacht ar feadh tr seachtain, nor chaith me seal mar sin riamh ann.

Mar gheall ar sin bh siad ssta i mBaile Aodha agus i gCluain De Ghad, it a mrionn Brennan a chuid peile. "Nl aon pheil i mBaile Aodha. Is as Baile Aodha domsa fin ach is Chluan de Ghad Clondegad an Chumann peile, dreach in aice linn.

T roinnt mhaith leads a imronn an dh chluiche, ceathrar n cigear. T saghas tuiscint idir Baile Aodha agus Cluan de Ghad.

That ability to work together, to co-exist has assisted Brennan on his sporting adventure. With Clare out of both Championships by early August Ballyea were in a position to acquire momentum and, more importantly, a winning habit in a highly competitive Clare Championship.

We got more of a run at it than we often would, Brennan says. We probably did get more a run at it and games were being played off every second weekend so there was that bit of flow to it and we were getting good work done.

It was such a slog or a journey for us to win that. Even this year we had to come back around after losing our first match. When you have won a Clare Championship you have earned it.
