Since the year 2000 , 1.2 Billion in Taxes has been spent on renting former Hotels etc for asylum seekers despite government statistics showing that the vast majority of applicants (92%) were Not genuine refugees under the terms of the Geneva Convention . This years spending is expected to exceed 120 million , up 50% on last year .
