I know , the title sounds a bit bizarre , but it is really a question I'd like to raise . Does the Media in Ireland have an Agenda to control peoples thinking in a certain direction.
Over the past fifteen years or so I've noticed an ever increasing trend within the Media where Journalists are united in outputting the same views and analysis on Political and Social Topics and people who are on the opposite side of their views are frequent targets for them to be singled out for villainization and ridicule .
There are plenty of examples to choose from ,
In relation to any EU Vote you will rarely see an Article calling on you to vote No , what you will notice is a solidarity among Journalists to pass the Treaty , you will notice that every Article you read will be telling you to vote Yes and perhaps will even throw in a few snide remarks about No voters , if you are a regular to your newspaper you will hear from people that are not regular contributors to the paper , people like millionaire Norah Casey for example telling you to vote yes.
In relation to the abortion issue , again Journalists are united and share the same views accross all Media outlets that we must have abortion and anybody who is against their views is simply one of those Catholics which is not true , all kinds of people oppose abortion , Jews , Muslims , Mormons , Atheists , Protestants , but the impression they like to create is that its just Catholics , Just treat them like the Black and Tans treated them. Indeed whenever a representative from the Catholic church speaks on RTE I notice that the presenter usually becomes very dismissive and even rude towards them .
In relation to Property Tax and Water charges again all Journalists unite to put forward the Job Creation Aspect , They seem to focus attention on the people who will gain employment by Irish Water and also on the people who haven't paid their property tax yet . There focus is not on the majority of the population who will gain only a lifetime of Misery from these new Taxes.
In relation to racism , again accross the Media Journalists unite to give a perspective that we are all racists because somebody somewhere in Ireland wrote Graffiti on a wall somewhere or some half celebrities boyfriend was insulted by Drunks and thus it must be representative of the entire population and deserves week long coverage online , on Joe Duffy and in Print . Is this the level Irish Journalism has stooped to that they are now receiving their News Stories from what people write on walls.
I can only conclude that the intention among the Irish Media is to create a kind of thinking among Irish People that what is expressed in the Media is what most people must be thinking around me and therefore I should think the same way too or I will be one those outcasts that get ridiculed all the time. I therefore must conform to the views being expressed by my Journalists.
In reality however and in the physical real world the views of these group thinkers are not being expressed by anybody , I mean up to 50 000 ordinary members of the public , men , women and children took part last saturday in a vigil to protect the life of the unborn and their mothers , how many take part in pro abortion events ... ? not very many , yet the atmosphere created by the Media is that people with pro abortion views are in the majority. I mean what is the Evidence that the letter supposedly written in blood that Enda Kenny received was in anyway associated with pro life movements or people , or expressed the sentiment of pro life people in general , there was none but it did not stop Irish Journalists from branding everyone with pro life views as extremists.
I can only conclude that the Irish Media are on some sort of pan european liberal policy promoting agenda and anyone who gets in the way .. well they're the enemy , catholics again most likely.
