Antifaschistische Aktion (Antifa for short) was the militant wing of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) in 1932/33. In 1931 the Communist Party of Germany united with Hitler's National Socialists who they referred to as the "working people's comrades" to oust the ruling social democrat party Funded by the Soviet Dictator Joseph Stalin and led by Ernst Thälmann who had been the leader of the alliance of Red Front-Fighters , a paramilitary organization later banned as extremist by the governing social democrats , the communist party adopted the position they were "the only anti-fascist party" regarding all other parties, (but to a lesser extent the nazis) as "fascists" . Its militant wing Antifa held its first rally in Berlin on 10 July 1932 . Renowned for its violent political streetfights , Antifa collaborated with the Nazis during the 1932 elections in carrying out attacks on the social democrat party which had united with trade unionists and liberals in a last ditch effort to save germany's liberal democracy from the growing threat of both communism and nazism .
