A referendum on Britain's membership of the European Union is due to be held on Thursday, 23 June 2016 .
Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union .
Support for Britain leaving the European Union is now at its highest in two years .
According to a recent YouGov survey carried out for the Times Newspaper , 56 per cent of decided voters say they will vote to leave while 44 per cent will vote to stay .
This likelyhood of Britain leaving the EU has ruffled a few feathers in Washington .
Washington Senator Bob Corker has announced that Barack Obama intends to make a “a big, public reach-out” to persuade British voters to stay inside the European Union .
Bob Corker who is chair of the Senate foreign relations committee in Washington says they decided to to do this after listening to concerns expressed by former Obama and George Bush administration staff .
One Such Concern came from Damon Wilson , a former European affairs director at the national security council under George Bush .
He told senators:
The United Kingdom may turn its back on the European Union this year, depriving us of a critical voice in shaping not only EU policy, but the future of Europe. Such a decision by London may prompt Scotland to dissolve the United Kingdom while opening the prospect of other states leaving the union
However , success of Britain outside the EU , could also serve to inspire not just European states but American States also , maybe Texas or California who's people are becoming increasingly alienated from Federal Government decisions to question their own Freedoms and Sovereignty .
A Survey carried out by Reuters News Agency between August and October 2014 found that 1 in 4 American Citizens wanted their State to leave the Union.
The Survey which received 16, 634 responses asked the following question :
" Do you support or oppose the idea of your state peacefully withdrawing from the United States of America and the federal government "
Out of the 16, 634 people surveyed , 23.7 % of people said they supported leaving the Union while 23.8 % didn't know .
