Dublin : East Wall Protests enter 5th week . Organisers demand end to "open door" migration

Large numbers of people turned out accross the inner city on Friday for a series of protests against the government's immigration policies.
The protests which are now in their fifth week running began in November when the state began moving large numbers of male asylum seekers into an office building on the East Wall Road in Dublin.
In a statement released in December , The East Wall Protest Committee said the protests would continue until further notice or until the centre is closed down. The statement said that the protest .."has set the benchmark for de-politicised debate around sensitive topics", that "irish people deserve better than the recklessness of open borders", that "people of east wall have not forgotten the fact that we are a sovereign, independent nation and all power derives from the people" and called on the government to "put the matter to the people in a simple referendum".
In a subsequent statement posted online, Malachy Steenson, a spokesman for the East Wall Committee said the infrastructure of the country was "broke", called for an end to "open door" migration and a referendum on the issue.
We want an end to open door, we want our hospitals run so we dont have a million people on waiting lists for hospital treatment, we want a system where there's not 100,000 children waiting on mental health assessment, where's there's children not being deprived of serious medial care because this state wont deal with it, we want a situation where there is not 11,500 people in emergency accommodation because they cant find homes, we want a situation were we're not increasing the population by 100,000 when the infrastructure of this country is broke and we want the government to put that to the people and ask the people what is their view - Malachy Steenson
