Limerick councillor who called gardai on Rosary prayer group described as "sectarian"

Limerick councillor who called gardai on Rosary prayer group described as "sectarian"
Councillor Elisa O'Donovan called Gardai on catholics praying outside Sacred Heart Church in Limerick on palm sunday
The actions of a Limerick Councillor Elisa O'Donovan who shouted at Catholics to "pray in your own homes" before calling the Gardai on them on Palm Sunday has been described as "bigotry" and "sectarian" .

The incident occurred outside the Sacred Heart Church in Limerick where around 30 parishoners had gathered to pray the rosary on Palm Sunday and was caught on camera by a local community activist Cathal McCarthy .

The video footage showed Councillor Elisa O'Donovan approaching those gathered in a hostile manner and gets into an argument with one man holding his rosary beads before calling the Gardai on them - "theres a large gathering , I'd like a garda car down here as soon as possible" the councillor tells gardai .

Councillor Elisa later suggested on her twitter page her reason was because of Covid-19 health reasons ... "For those gathering here . Please worship privately in your own home and don’t put others at risk for your prayer " .

However , Local Community Activist Cathal McCarthy reminded Councillor Elisa that she had attended a Black Lives Matter protest in Arthur’s Quay Park last June in which around 200 people were in attendance despite Covid-19 lockdown regulations at the time. Mr McCarthy said .. "she goes to events she supports but because of her sectarian bigotry she cant tolerate this"

Councillor Elisa's behaviour was subsequently questioned by fellow Limerick Councillor Emmett O'Brien who challenged her to a debate on Limerick Radio .. "if you believe you're right why did you refuse to debate me on Limerick Today" wrote Councillor O'Brien in response to Councillor Elisa .

there's no place for bigotry in limerick . cllr Elisa O'Donovan should be ashamed of herself . the black and tans are alive and well
^
very strange antics altogether . I doubt it had much to do with covid and more to do with the religion of the people gathered .
^
A SECTARIAN BIGOTED GOVT. REP IN IRELAND 2021 ?
A Stasi gardai responds without fail - ??? what are they ?
Innocent Catholics being persecuted for nothing...reminds me of !
NO- IT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN - EASTER CELEBRATIONS FOR WHO
^
the lesson from this is be careful who you vote for . limerick deserves better than this . catholics probably voted for this woman thinking she was a tolerant person.
^
cant believe anyone would call the guards over a few prayers . i watched the full video on Cathal McCarthy's channel and at one point near the start you can see her shaking her head in anger at them .

keep politics out of sport . leitrim hurlers think long hard about this. This is NOT about racism , its about political organisations using the GAA to further a political agenda . this is about manufacturing and promoting the idea that we have a racism problem in Ireland even though there is no research to support that claim and in doing so shutting down any possible debate around peoples genuine concerns around immigration matters in Ireland . please dont allow yourself to be used by the

good to see the defence forces behaving responsibly. its important that we dont allow this bullying and name calling of people for having different views. there is an agressive movement within academic circles to alienate ordinary people by labelling them as far right or fascist for simply holding a different point of view to them
