Phillip Schofield story shows us gay people can live happy with opposite sex

Letter to Editor 16 September 2020 They say Love is more than just physical attraction . In February of this year , BBC presenter Phillip Schofield announced publicly that he was gay . Schofield had been married to his wife Stephanie for 27 years and had two daughters at the time of the announcement . Yesterday it was reported , he was converting the wifes garage into a Bachelor Pad and would remain in the family home which is worth some 2.6 million . The Scholfield story shows us that while gay people might be sexually attracted to the same sex , physical attraction and love are two

Covid-19 recovery rates hidden from public

Letter to Editor 12 Sept 2020 Every day in Ireland , the overall total of confirmed Covid-19 cases and Deaths is read out in our daily news Bulletins . Many people are wrongly led to believe that this is the number of people who currently have the Virus right now but actually it is the number of people who tested positive for the virus since the very start of the pandemic at the end of March and many of these people have since recovered and no longer have the virus . Unfortunately , the number of people who have the Virus "right now" is NOT KNOWN because

Mixed religion. Aged 63 I witnessed many of the 'Troubles' in the North. I used to spend my school summer holidays on my Uncles farm in County Down. How times have changed. In November 2013 , Gardai issued a nationwide alert for a missing Roscommon woman and her three children . They were later found safe and well in Fermanagh . The Woman's name was Fiona Gregg . This is the last time Fiona would be together with her children as a family . Here is Fiona's full story in her own words . I moved to county Roscommon in 2008 as a lone parent with two of my children. I qualified as an EMT but shortly after that I got ill with gallstones. When the doctor advised me I'd need to have my gall bladder removed, I

Senator McDowell "outraged" at Shelbourne Statue Purge , "our heritage is not to be torn down"
statues removed from shelbourne hotel
Independent Senator Michael McDowell has expressed his outrage at the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin after a number of  impressive Cast Iron Sculptures were removed on Monday from the Hotel's main Entrance .

The sculptures designed by renowned french Sculptor Mathurin Moreau included two impressive cast iron statues , one of an Egyptian woman and the other a Negro Woman both holding a torch. Both statues were 153 years old .

It is understood the statues were removed because of a perception that they may represent Slaves in Africa and in light of ongoing events such as the Black Lives Matter protests around the world .  Hotel manager JP Kavanagh said the decision to take the statues down had been taken by the hotel and there had been no complaints from outside ... "It was a decision taken just by us with our owner and operator. This decision has been coming for a number of weeks given what has been happening in the world" .

The decision to remove the Statues was welcomed by Dr Ebun Joseph , a nigerian lecturer in migration and race studies at UCD and co-founder of the Black Studies module .

Posting to her twitter account Dr Ebun wrote ... "This is how to self regulate and just do the good thing , it’s not nice to have to pass by a representation of a reprehensible part of your past all the time while others’ ugly past are not shown

However , Independent Senator and former Justice Minister Michael McDowell said he is "outraged at the decision" , that the removal of the statues was "unlawful"  because they represent an "integral part of the front treatment of the hotel" which is a protected structure and the idea that the statues caused offence to anyone was "idiocy"
and "it gives no offence to anyone reasonable" .

Speaking to the Seanad , Mr McDowell explained .. "I just want to say how outraged I feel at the decision of the management at the shelbourne hotel to remove four statues which were an integral part of the front treatment of that hotel which is a protected structure , these statues were removed on the basis that they represent nubian slave women , this is nonsense , theres two possibilities that somebody actually made a complaint about them in which case its a response to idiocy , alternatively this was in response to a corporate search for anything that could offend which is another form of idiocy , it gives no offence to anyone reasonable , this is a protected structure , its unlawful to change it without planning permission and for a large multinational corporation to breach the law in this way , in an idiotic way is wholely unacceptable , and I would ask Minister Catherine Martin who is responsible for culture should come to this house and use this as a forum to explain our heritage is not to be torn down or removed simply because of foolish notions of causing offense were no offense could possibly reasonably be taken"

Dublin City Council has since launched an investigation as to whether the Hotel's removal of the statues constitutes unauthorised development given the protected structure status of the Hotel .

Great piece Charlie, Thank You!

I know the statues in question very well, having grown up in Dublin. In fact I have black and white photos of them.

If my memory serves me, I believe even Dublins most famous photographer Mr Finn also at one time photographed them for the Evening Press (as was).

This is NOTHING more than cheap Woke point scoring by the management / owners of the premises.

I also agree with Senator Mc Dowell, as a listed frontage the removal IS indeed in contravention of listed building code.
^
some good news . planning enforcement have begun proceedings against the Shelbourne hotel to reinstate the statues. hope this serves as a lesson to the management to behave themselves in the future

^
Here is the video of Michael McDowell debating with Ebun Joseph about the statues

^
Charlie, some rather Ironic facts about the now removed statues.

The statues are of two NUBIAN Princesses with THEIR slaves!

The statues depict said Princesses, who are believed to be the Daughters of THE greatest of the NUBIAN Queens.

The Most Famous of the Queens
Shanakdakhete (177 BC–155 BC)
Who was the earliest known ruling African queen of ancient Nubia, She was a queen regent of the Kingdom of Kush, when the polity was centred at Meroe.

She reigned from circa 170 to 150 BC. It is also stated that as queen she played a significant role in the Meroitic religion.

The Nubians were a warrior people, Farmers and traders. Who traded successfully with many peoples of the Greek, and African nations alongside what today are Arab states.

They traded in goods and Slaves and the kingdom itself held countless slaves, mainly from African and Arab countries.

The lands they ruled spread from North of the Níle in Egypt South to Sudan, West to Libya and although still of great debate, it is said the Nubians ruled modern day Palestine, parts of Israel & in to parts of modern day Lebanon, though it must be stated that modern boundaries and current Country names did not then exist.

NUBIAN Queens & Princesses were far from just spouses of figure heads.

The Queen had great power and it is recorded that the Queen could and DID order the King to commit suicide so that HER chosen Son could take control of the kingdom.

It was however a less than equal society, in fact warrior Queens and their Daughters ruled with exceptional brutality and cruelty!. Often their Father, Brothers or Husbands were seen as something easily replaced.

In today's terms it would be Akin to a Female dominated society. But it would be viewed as having little compassion for men / Boys and even far less for Slaves, be they Male or Female.

Even a quick glance via Google under the search : NUBIAN Queens, brings to light what in it's mildest terms, would be considered adoration of absolute cruelty and from the harshest of view point: The total and loyal adoration or blind worship of Sexism, Slavery, Cruelty and absolute racism!.

I encourage all to search for even just one of the very many fan sites / pages.

The Conclusion Charlie, is that both you and indeed Senator Mc Dowell have opened up a nest of embarrassment for those, ALL TOO EAGER to call every depiction, figure or Statue, RACIST by virtue of their very existence.

What has been highlighted by the removal of these Statues is Indeed Slavery!, but also ignorance. As the Slave owners were the Black Queens of Kush.

The Nubians were one of (if not THE biggest) the major kingdoms of Africa which traded in Slaves, sold or bartered Slaves and actively kept slaves from other Black and Arab (in todays terms) tribal kingdoms.

The Irony, not A white man in sight, perhaps maybe for the French Sculptor.

IRONY sit aside me, so that I may mock and belittle your musings.
^
Thank you Charlie, very much.

I had not seen the debate above, what is very interesting about it, is the assumption of the negative!, always from BLM and their supporters.

For all the lady in the debate knows, the statues COULD have been adoration pieces.

It is still and was in the past, a regular thing for statues and figurenes to be cast from a respect & historic stand point.

For example maidens (said to be pure) were picked to light the way in caves of Religious importance. These virgins would guide people through the darkness to visit the Oracle for guidance on matters such as war, weather and best planting times and so on!.

Yet it is assumed almost automatically that these statues are of Slaves!

^
sure we were all slaves at one time , the vikings enslaved the celts , the Normans enslaved the vikings , should we take all our statues down to please Miss Ebun .
^
crazy , everyone wants to be offended about something , just leave the damn statues alone , people lost the plot altogether and no this video isn't offensive ,

walk like an egyptian by the bangles , just a song and a dance ,get over it

^
on this occasion , I 100% agree with mcdowell , no rational level headed person could possibly be offended by these statues . They are beautiful design , very pretty statues , excellent craftsmanship
^
wow , business must be really slow if the management have this much time on their hands
^
why does everything have to be so politically correct , its scary , BLM are nothing but bullies and anarchists , they fight with police , riot and inflict so much harm on communities and yet we're all supposed to admire them greatly.
