It is a great shame for sure. We Irish tend to be either olive skin and dark hair, Red haired and very fair skin or a mixture of both.
IN my family two were / are olive skin with dark hair and one Sister is a natural redhead, freckles and all, though from an early age she would colour her hair. She hated being red / ginger.
Like all redheads when the sun got her it became easy to work out her natural colour, because the increase in freckles would give it away.
Indeed, my Parents would often say exactly that, that she was a true Celtic Woman!
SHE is now in her mid 40's and her Daughter is an absolute double of her as a child, right down to the fair skin, freckles and (wait for it) Red Hair!.
BUT my Sister even now refuses to let her natural colour shine through!
As my Father (RIP) USED to say, "What is so wrong with being a beautiful Irish Colleen?"
