Threats , intimidation & hotel cancellations
Last Week , the Ashling Hotel on Parkgate Street in Dublin cancelled an event organised by Human Life International after being threatened by abortion activists.
Patrick McCrystal , the executive director of human life international explained what happened.
We had booked it a number of weeks ago, we had put a significant amount of money into advertising
The manager himself spoke to me directly of 50 pages of commentary, emails and social media, that a Facebook page had been set up opposing the conference, as well as diatribe, intimidation, upset of his staff, personal visits to the hotel and threats of protest at the hotel if conference continues.
In the interest of health and safety of his staff, he had to cancel venue
Just Days after this , another two hotels cancelled an event organised by the Life Institute and Unbroken Organisation .
The unbroken organisation consists of a group of women who were born or had children as a result of rape .
The event was booked for the Gibson Hotel for 28 Sept . The Gibson Hotel subsequently cancelled after receiving threats and the event was moved to the Spencer Hotel which also cancelled as a result of threats .
Niamh Uí Bhriain of the life Institute explains what happened .
The Gibson rang and said the event was cancelled. We were pretty shocked.
it was afraid of abortion protesters and of what it would mean for the hotel. They were afraid for the safety of the hotel and the staff. We tried to persuade them but they weren’t persuaded .
The event was then moved to the Spencer Hotel . She said the Spencer cancelled the event three days later, citing abuse and intimidation its staff members were receiving online .
In two other incidents in both Dublin and Cork , the Unbroken Organisation has had their Posters advertising their events torn down by radical left wing groups .
In Dublin . People Before Profit Trinity celebrated on Facebook , a picture showing their activists tearing down posters while in Cork , the Connolly Youth Movement have also taken to Facebook to celebrate likewise .
In Cork , the Connolly Youth Movement put a picture on facebook of posters they tore down advertising a pro life event in the Silver Springs Hotel Cork .
Despite the threats and intimidation and cancellation of venues . Women from the Unbroken Organisation addressed a large crowd of Pro life supporters outside the Spencer Hotel Last Night .
Unbroken's next event will be held in the Silver Springs Hotel in Cork on Sunday October 1st . Everybody who believes in Free Speech and Democracy must hope that the Silver Springs Hotel does not follow the recent trend of cancellations .
