Twitter Amnesty could see Journalist Gemma O'Doherty return after 2 year ban
Twitter amnesty for suspended accounts to begin next week. comes as CEO Elon Musk affirms his support for free speech.
The Social Media Giant Twitter has announced an amnesty for suspended accounts beginning next week. The decision comes after a poll of more than 3 million users found 72% in favour of the move.

The poll which was conducted on Wednesday by twitter CEO and owner Elon Musk asked the question.. "Should Twitter offer a general amnesty to suspended accounts, provided that they have not broken the law or engaged in egregious spam?". On Thursday the results of the poll found that of the 3,162,112 people who voted ,  72.4% supported the amnesty while 27.6% were against.

Writing to his Twitter Account on Thursday , CEO Elon Musk wrote .. "the people have spoken. Amnesty begins next week"

The move comes amid a series of promises by new owner Elon Musk to Support  Free Speech following his takeover of the Company on October 27th.

Earlier this Month on November 4th, Mr Musk blamed "a massive drop" in Twitter revenue on .. "activist groups pressuring advertisers". Mr Musk described it as .. "Extremely messed up" and said .. "Theyโ€™re trying to destroy free speech in America". On November 7th Mr Musk again affirmed his commitment to free speech... "My commitment to free speech extends even to not banning the account following my plane, even though that is a direct personal safety risk".

The Amnesty which begins next week could see Irish Political Activists such as Gemma O'Doherty back on Twitter in the coming weeks.

Ms O'Doherty, a former Journalist with the Irish Independent was banned from Twitter in July 2020 . At the time of her ban , Ms O'Doherty had some 58,000 followers.
