What is 'Equality in Education'
Gaelscoil na Camóige Cluain Dolcain , is an Irish Catholic School founded in 1993 .
Like so many other schools promoting Irish Culture , It consists soley of prefabricated buildings strung together .
I felt really sad one morning when I passed the school and saw their planning application for extra "prefabricated double classrooms and Toilets" ..
There are currently 232 children attending this school .
For the past 23 years (even during the celtic tiger years when there was plenty of cash about ) the children of Gaelscoil na Camóige like so many Gaelscoil have been marginalised by our government and left on the sidelines of society .
Their only crime , being catholic and wanting to grow up in a traditional irish setting where being proud of your own heritage and culture is not a crime .
The mission statement of Gaelscoil na Camóige :
A quality education through the medium of Irish, integrated with the cultural heritage of Ireland and a strong Catholic ethos, in a caring atmosphere, permeated by a sense of mutual respect and unity of purpose
- mission statement Gaelscoil na Camóige (this is not a crime)
However , this is a crime to many Irish politicians and so instead of funding irish culture and Gaelscoils , every penny over the last 20 years has been spent funding a company called "Educate Together Ltd" to build schools promoting other peoples Culture .
In the past 20 years alone (1996 - 2016) , 67 educate together schools have been built and another 5 educate together schools are to open in 2016/2017 bringing the total number to over 90 schools, while at the same time our government has refused to give any money to schools promoting Irish Culture , Tradition or anything to do with the catholic religion.
Are People who send their children to Gaelscoils not tax payers like everybody else , why should their children be treated with contempt simply because our government doesn't share their sense of traditionalism or pride in our heritage .
How is this equality , that a large proportion of Irish Tax Payers are being denied their basic rights to humane treatment of their children .
Lets Treat Gaelscoil na Camóige Cluain Dolcain and all the other Gaelscoil in Ireland with the same level of respect and funding as Educate Together schools .
Lets get Gaelscoil na Camóige Cluain Dolcain a proper state of the art building and lets do it today by sharing this article and contacting your local TD on the issue .
Thanks for reading .
