Éamon de Valera - Connolly was "intensely nationalistic . he told me so"
Video : President Éamon de Valera discusses the Gaelic League and James Connolly on the steps of Áras an Uachtaráin 1962 . De Valera says James Connolly who was a member of the Gaelic League and was learning the Irish Language was "intensely nationalistic . he told me so"
It was in the Gaelic League that i realised best what a nation was and what had to be done to get the freedom necessary to realise ourselves again . you had in the league at that time , you had Pearse , you had MacDonagh , Ceannt and Plunkett and of course men like Clarke and Connolly were intensely nationalistic , some may think that Connolly was not so much but thats not true , I know its not true because he told me so . he was intensely in favour of freedom for our Country , and it would be very difficult to be in the Gaelic league and be thinking of the nation whos language you were learning without being in favour of freedom for that Country . It brought us into contact with Irish history in a very special way

I hope peter is ok and will contact his family soon. I never knew him only of his political party identity ireland but its a difficult road for people when they voice political beliefs that go against the narrative in Ireland.
I recently saw a left-wing group (@IrlagainstFash) actually celebrating getting people fired from their jobs because of the person's political beliefs while at the same time banging on about 'workers rights' and 'the working class' and 'wo
