Comhairle Laighean is saddened to learn of the death of Iar-Cathaoirleach Jimmy Gray.
Jimmy was a lifelong Gael whose passion for the game in Dublin led to him becoming Cathaoirleach of Comhairle Laighean in 1990.
Starting out as a player he represented his beloved Dublin in both codes, including playing in the 1961 All Ireland Hurling Final. He was one of the founding members of Na Fianna GAA Club and was current President of Dublin GAA. He also remained central in the promotion of hurling within the Capital right up until this day through his work with Friends of Dublin Hurling. One of his prouder moments was being able to present the Bob OKeeffe Cup to victorious Dublin Captain Johnny McCaffrey following the Leinster Final in 2013.
Current Cathaoirleach Derek Kent paid tribute to Jimmy saying Jimmy was a true giant of the GAA in Leinster. He was a tireless worker for the sport he loved, and his dedication and commitment to Gaelic Games both in the Province and home County will never be forgotten. He was a role model for so many people, both on and off the field, and his legacy will live on in the many players, coaches, and administrators whose lives he touched. Jimmy will be greatly missed, and our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Gretta and his Children at this difficult time.
