Mooncoin Crowned Leinster Club Junior Champions
AIB Leinster Club Junior Hurling Championship Final: Mooncoin Kilkenny 1-16, Ratoath Meath 0-12
Despite a seven point winning margin, Mooncoin were made fight all the way by a very determined Ratoath side in this AIB Leinster Club Junior Hurling Final played at Nowlan Park, Kilkenny this afternoon.
The sides were level on six occasions in a very entertaining first half. Mooncoin had the opening two points of the game. But the Meath champions soon settled and two points from full forward Gavin McGowan brought them level after six minutes.
Ratoath then edged two points clear, before the games only goal arrived courtesy of Eamonn Hennebry on 23 minutes. The big full-forward caught a high delivery before blasting to the net from 14 metres. The Kilkenny side went on to lead by a point at the break, 1-7 to 0-9.
Mooncoin were much sharper in the second half and took the game by the scruff of the neck when Alan Walsh, Paul Hennebry, Kevin Crowley free and Ray Wall fired over a string of points in quick succession to push their side five clear 1-12 to 0-10.
Ratoath, to their credit, never gave up but could never get through for a goal that would have thrown the game wide open. After the game Leinster Council Chairperson John Horan presented the Tom Ryall Cup to Ethan Ryan Captain of the Mooncoin team.
