Holders UL advanced to the quarter-final stage of the Electric Ireland Fitzgibbon Cup following a convincing 2-23 to 1-13 win over TUS Midwest.
Tight early on, UL enjoyed a productive burst before half-time to earn a 0-13 to 0-7 interval advantage.
Sen Twomey and Mark Rodgers netted goals for UL after the restart with Robin Mounsey pinching a late consolation major for TUS Midwest.
A battling Maynooth University came close to causing a shock, but eventually lost 1-23 to 0-22 against UCD.
Donal O'Shea was in good scoring form for UCD, who trailed entering the closing stages with Billy Drennan influential for Maynooth.
In the dying moments O'Shea converted some pressure frees before Eoin Guilfoyle struck a critical goal.
