Seán McCague RIP

GAA

The GAA extends its sympathies to the family of former GAA President Sen McCague on news of his passing this morning.

The Scotstown man served as the 33rd President of the Association from 2000 to 2003 having earlier come to national prominence on the back of an impressive management role with the Monaghan footballers.

He moved into administration serving Monaghan, Ulster and the organisation nationally with distinction in a variety of roles, including Games Administration Committee chairperson before his election to the role of Uachtarn CLG at a time of considerable change for the organisation and the country.

Current GAA President Larry McCarthy paid tribute to the former school teacher.

He said: On behalf of our members and the Association as a whole, I would like to offer my condolences to Seans wife Bernie, and his daughters Paula, Nuala, Martha, Freda and Emma and also to his wide circle of friends and those who admired and respected him.

Sen was an astute leader at a time when the organisation benefitted greatly from his wisdom, experience and undoubted influence.

He served the Association at every level, from Scottstown up and he left an indelible mark on our games and the GAA as we know it today.
