How many times are we told that the European Union is about bringing peace and unity after World War II , apart from the irony that Germany , which was solely responsible for starting that war now has most influence through its majority MEPS and is in control of the finances through the European Central Bank in Frankfurt , unity and peace is far from the reality on the ground .
Increased homelessness , unemployment , suicide rates and social unrest accross much of the Continent , followed by street protest after street protest . Large sections of society are clearly not feeling the Love , unity and peace .
On 1st November 1993 , The treaty on European Union (Maastricht treaty) came into force .. it stated - "we the high contracting parties hereby establish among ourselves a 'European Union'" . The European Economics Community (EEC) was transformed overnight from a Free trade community into a Political Union and the thirst for power and authority to rule over people would begin .
Now around that time in 1994 , an Irish Cultural group was touring Australia , The groups name "Na Ridiri" (The Knights) consisted of 14 of Ireland's very best dancers, singers, and musicians organised by Diarmuid O’Cathain, former Uachtaran of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eirann .
Today , 26 years on , another Irish group named "Na Ridiri" has made the News , but for very different reasons , Its reported that this group is recruiting young men , to learn combat training and use of arms for a possible future revolution against the state .
In the space of such a short time , how did Ireland go from a happy Country with people minding their own business , watching over their families and being in good spirits to a Country where we now have groups thinking about future revolution against the government
Given that these groups only started to appear in European Countries after the creation of the EU , we must ask the question what is the EU doing to society that is making people so unhappy with their rulers .
No doubt , the response from government and official EU will be to dismiss these groups as fringe , far right , neo nazi and maybe ban social media accounts , bring in hate speech laws and every law they can to deal with them but unless the fundamental reason as to why people are joining these groups is addressed , why are these people so unhappy with their rulers , then one can only assume these groups will continue to grow stronger and larger accross Europe.
