A new Accommodation Centre for Asylum Seekers consisting of Sixty , two and three Bed Apartments has been announced for the Port Road in Letterkenny , Co Donegal . Its expected the Asylum Seekers numbering some 350 people will begin moving into the Apartments on the Port Road in the new year . Local TD , Thomas Pringle has welcomed the move , writing on social Media - "There's no better town in Ireland equiped to welcome people than Letterkenny and no better people than ourselves in Donegal to extend a welcome " Figures from the Department of Justice show there were 4,781 asylum applications lodged in Ireland

The Supreme Court in London has dismissed a challenge against a High Court ruling last September which ruled that Trans-Men who give Birth must be named as the Child's Mother on the Birth Certificate . The court case was brought by Guardian Journalist Freddy McConnell , a biological woman who changed to a man , gave birth to a child , and wanted to register as the Child's 'father' on its birth certificate . A County Cavan Priest has said he was reported to Gardai for celebrating Mass in Public . Fr P.J. Hughes, Parish Priest at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Mullahoran , Co Cavan , said he was visited by four Gardai on Sunday morning who warned him he was breaking the law under Covid-19 regulations and could face prosecution . Under Level 5 restrictions , all Masses are prohibited , with the exception of Weddings where 6 people can attend and Funerals 25 people . UNICEF has announced it is expanding its "Rights Respecting Schools Award" to Irish Schools . The programme described as an "EU project" , first piloted In September 2019 in Nine primary and Secondary schools in Cork, Dublin and Kildare. The stated purpose of the programme is to create "Global Citizens" calling on students to take part in "direct action" , "strikes" , "flash mobs" , "Marches" and "Sit ins" to achieve the goals set out in the United Nations 2030 agenda for sustainable development . Global Leaders have signed up to an agreement , this agreement is a set of goals called sustainable development goals .
